Ancillary Task - Constructing A Post-Production Questionnaire

After successfully constructing my digipak and advert I have decided to gain 'post production feedback' which will allow me to evaluate how effective the codes & conventions and idea generation was within the ancillary task. In order to gain sufficient feedback I will target my questions in such way that they will allow the respondent to elaborate on their answers, giving me their own opinion on the product. In order to target a broad audience I have decided to design two questionnaires; a paper based as well as an online based questionnaire. As a result of this I will be able to hand out the paper questionnaire and gain direct feedback as well as send a email with the link to my questionnaire as by this I will make the questionnaire feedback more convenient and targeted more at Web 2.0 influenced audience. Furthermore, I have designed my questionnaire to highlight the positive areas of the questionnaire as well as any improvements which would be beneficial for the final product. Concluding, I believe that by evaluating my questionnaire results I will be able to identify how successful my product has been and if it appealed to the chosen audience.

Ancillary Task - Audience Verbal Feedback

SCRIPT:

Ancillary Task - Audience Verbal Feedback

In today’s post I will be discussing my verbal questionnaire and its feedback. The feedback which I have gained will be vital for my further construction stages as it has clearly portrayed the end users requirements and needs.

The first question which I have verbally asked my audience was focused on the digipak as well as the advert layout. Within this question I have targeted my audience to identify any features from the progressive house genre within my layout design.  Within my draft idea creation for the layout, I have been mainly inspired by my codes & conventions research that I believe has signified the vital parts of Progressive House genre such as the track list, barcode and legal statement placement within the back cover or the positioning of typography and graphic imagery within the front cover of the digipak. Within my responses I have gained positive feedback from my audience in the form of comments such as “very well structured”, “not overcrowded for the eye making it pleasing and eye-catching” as well as “I believe that the positioning of content within the digipak and advert represents the stereotypical expectations of such genre”. Within my planning, I have taken into account the placement of content which I have seen within examples of work from artist such as Zedd and Avicii and applied similar structure to my work. Overall I believe that my proposed ancillary task layout seemed quite appealing to my audience therefore I will choose to follow the set flat-plan within my construction stages.

I have based the second question around the planning of the ancillary task within the ‘visualising initial thoughts’ post where I have experimented and placed my initial thoughts onto production. The experimentation has allowed me to refine my content in terms of structure, colour as well as imagery used. As a form of feedback I have shown my audience the work which I have constructed based around typography overlay, background image editing and geometrical shape construction. At first I have asked my audience which of the constructed typography overlays matched their perception of Progressive House genre. All of the respondents have unambiguously replied that the final attempt at constructing the typography texture has been considered to be the most successful due to the use of colour and sharp texture which the audience states that it “Reflects the expectations of club settings where lights and the dance floor play a vital part of the atmosphere”. Moving onto the background imagery which I have experimented with in order to portray the surreal element within my work, I have asked my audience “How they feel when looking at the photograph due to the development which I have carried out”. The audience has specified that the image “Transferred them to a parallel universe” and “emphasised a magical / mystical mood within the image”. As a result I believe that the image was very effective at portraying the desired mood therefore in the eyes of the audience, the image has been seen as suitable for the background of my digipak and advert. As part of my visualising experimentation, I have taken inspiration from online video tutorials and attempted a go at constructing a geometrical shape which has been filled with an image overlay. At first I have attempted to implement a photograph of my actress within the shape which in my opinion did not suit the overall concept of the digipak and advert. As a result of this I have further experimented and applied the same texture overlay over the shape as I have used within my typography. I have shown my experimentation journey to the audience in order for them to conclude on the graphic content where they have commented “I believe that the vibrant texture really emphasises the shape as well as the surreal element within the ancillary task”. Concluding on the feedback from this specific stage of my planning and construction, I believe that the audience feedback has backed up my design choices in order to meet my expected outcome.

The third question which I have asked the audience was based around my “typography research” post, where I have collected a number of fonts that I believe suit the Progressive House genre. Within my research I have considered the fact that most Progressive House digipaks included two types of font style; bold and thin. As a result of this I have collected a number of fonts which has allowed the audience for direct visual comparison. Within my feedback I have been told that the fonts which are most suitable for my digipak are Bebaus Neue and Dolce Vita due to their sharp and clear structure. The audience has specified the appropriate fonts for my digipak therefore I will take this into account and use them within my production.

Within my planning stages I had to distinguish a suitable name for my digipak therefore I have used the feedback opportunity and asked the audience for a word which reminds them of Progressive House genre. I have been given a multitude of titles, some of them being “Zone”, “Amplitude” and “Tessellate”. Out of all of the suggested titles, I have found “Tessellate” to be the most successful due to it representing the overall structure of nightclubs where Progressive House would be present. As a result I have chosen “Tessellate” to be my digipak title as I believe it is very catchy and clearly presents the dynamic nature of the genre.

In order to successfully construct the track list for the back of my digipak cover I have constructed a proposal list of 20 tracks and portrayed it to my audience. The song titles which I have come up with have portrayed a rather energetic mood which is tailored for the adrenaline fuelled lifestyle of my target audience.  I have used the proposed track list as a base for my audience, for them to narrow down the list portraying only the catchiest titles. As a result of this I have been provided with the best 11 titles from the list. I believe that by having 11 song titles within my track list I have made it optimal for my progressive house genre as the track lists mainly range from 10-15 songs. The song titles which I will include within my track list are as below:
  • Beautiful now Ft. John Bellion
  • Tidal Waves
  • Midnight Run
  • Powerful Ft. Ellie Goulding
  • Beyond Life
  • Circles
  • Without You
  • Runaway
  • Movements
  • Flight
  • Blue Skies

I have implemented “Beautiful Now Ft John Bellion” as one of my song titles due to the fact that it was the song used within my music video, therefore creating a clear link between my digipak and the music video. Additionally I believe song titles such as “Tidal Waves”, “Movements” and “Blue Skies” have really emphasised the surreal element which is mainly portrayed within the progressive house genre.

Concluding, I believe that the verbal questionnaire has allowed me to refine my ideas within my digipak and advert planning as with the help of my audience I have been allowed to specify any areas which the audience would like to see within the digipak and advert therefore causing my work to be effective and match their expectations. As a next stage, I will apply the feedback into my construction and create a professional digipak and advert for my chosen genre.

Ancillary Task - Draft Ideas for Digipak & Advert

The purpose of this post was to initially organise my digipak structure by drawing a flat plan using Photoshop and roughly positioning the necessary content which I have found during my digipak / advert research. As a result of this I was allowed to thoroughly manage the content which I will place within my digipak and advert, making sure that my product follow the codes & conventions of Progressive House genre.

Above I present my initial plans for the digipak construction process. As we can see within the image I have thoroughly though out the placement of each feature within the digipak such as the typography, imagery or graphical content.  I will elaborate on my choices further into the post.

Front Cover:
Within the front cover of my digipak I have chosen to apply a real life photograph which has been mainly inspired by the digipak of Rudimental - Home where an urban location has been portrayed within the background. The second feature which I have applied to my front cover of the digipak is the geometrical shape which I have found quite suitable for my music genre. The geometrical shape will portray a graphic image filled with warm tones and uneven texture. Overall, within my research I have acknowledged that within Progressive House digipaks there have been two types of content spacing; one being with the album title and the artist logo towards the bottom and the other being with the graphic image being in the background and the album title in the middle of the page. As a result of this I have chosen to go with the first option and position my album title and artist logo towards the bottom as by this I would be allowed to place a large 'geometrical shape' which will grab my audiences attention due to its aestheticall features such as the colours and textures.

Back Cover

Above I present my initial plans for the back cover of my digipak. As we can see my back cover has been mainly inspired by Zedds 'True Colors' digipak as I have taken into account his placement of content while organising my organisation. The graphic composition which I will place on the far right hand side of the digipak will reflect the same texture as the one allocated within the geometrical image placed on the front of the digipak. The graphic composition will slowly decrease in width towards the bottom of the digipak as well as fade away into the background, giving off a 'mosaic' effect. The purpose of such 'mosaic' texture is to attract the audience attention due to its vibrant colours which will then move their attention to the track list which will be positioned opposite it.

INSIDE BOOKLET PAGE:
In order to carry on the surreal atmosphere throughout my product I have chosen to follow the style which has been portrayed within one of the tutorials that I have come across within my idea generation stages. The tutorial which I will follow is the "Geometric Landscape Displacement Tutorial" which I will take inspiration from and apply it to my imagery within the Booklet page of my digipak. For the "Landscape Displacement" I will use the image which I have taken during in Hanwell Bunny Park during our filming. Overall, the whole page will be filled with an image apart from a stripe which will be seen on the fold within the digipak. On the fold I have decided to allocate the artists logo and the albums name as I have acknowledged that this has been mainly placed on the folds, allowing the audience to acknowledge what the digipak will contain while stored on the shelf.

(Youtube Tutorial)

CD Page:
The inside of the digipak will portray exactly the opposite of what the front cover of the digipak will as within the inside I have chosen to implement an image which present a park setting that contrasts with the urban location that will be allocated on the front cover. In order to create a 'panoramic' effect within the inside of my digipak I have planned to allocate the same image which I will place on the booklet page behind my CD however I will rotate it horizontally in order to create a mirror effect. As a result of this I will create dimension within the digipak whilst being opened up. In terms of the CD itself, I have planned to apply the same image overlay as I have used on the typography within my front cover by which I will be allowed to create a corporate identity throughout my product. The CD will follow the codes & conventions by including the albums name. artists name, record label logo as well as the legal statement written around the edge of the CD.

On the left I present my initial layout for the advert which I will create alongside the digipak. My placement choices have been mainly influenced by my research and the codes & conventions which I have acknowledged due to the research. I have challenged the codes & conventions by placing the artist logo at the very top of the advert as it mainly appears towards the bottom. By challenging the convention in such matter I believe that I have made the advert more balanced as there is text which appears at the top and bottom making the advert not overcrowded, therefore enhancing its looks by making it more aesthetically pleasing. Other than that, the placement of elements such as the release information has been a key code & convention within the Progressive House adverts as it mainly appears towards the bottom of the advert which is where I have placed it in my advert. Looking back at my research, I have noticed that there is a strong link between the digipak and the advert therefore I plan to implement the same geometrical shape, the background as well as the album title on the advert as they have appeared in the digipak. As a result of this I will be allowed to create a corporate identity between the two mediums which simultaneously enhance the digipaks marketing as the audience will recognise the elements from the advert while visiting the shops.

Concluding:
By carefully laying out each of the features within my digipak and advert I have as a result created a template for me to follow within my construction process, making it much more time efficient. The creation of such flat plan has allowed me to implement all of the neccessary features which follow the codes & conventions that I have acknowledged within my research, ensuring that within my construction I will cover each feature, making my construction process effective.

Ancillary Task - Visualising Initial Thoughts

Within this post I will be developing my initial thoughts based on my research with the use of Adobe Photoshop. By visualising my thoughts I will be allowed to gain audience feedback as well as see if the concept behind the ideas does function or looks out of place for my Progressive House digipak/advert.

TYPOGRAPHY STYLE DEVELOPMENT

The above collection of 4 typography styles represents my experimentation with various overlays which I have found common within Progressive House genre. The first represents a texture which has been applied to the typography, emphasising its letters with the use of shadows, darker tones as well as metal like texture which can be mainly seen in Zedd's or Dimitri Vega's digipaks. The use of texture has significantly improved the attractiveness of the text however in my opinion it does not represent the surreal element which I would like to include within my composition therefore I have moved onto a different experimentation of text.

Other than textures, some of the typography for example, the albums title which has been used in Rudimentals - We The Generation digipak contains a image overlay on top of the typography. Such image overlay gives dimension to the text as well as making it more aesthetically pleasing for the audience to look at. Within my experimentation I have used one of my real life images which I have taken during our filming in central London (test shots). I have successfully inserted the image onto the text with the use of a clipping mask tool. After applying the image over the text, I have repositioned it in order for the letters to be filled with textures and light areas of the image as by this they will be easily seen against the dark background. Even after repositioning the image in order to make the text clearly visible, some areas of the typography were overfilled with texture of the buildings such as the letters 'BEAU' which made them hard to read. As a result of this I believe that this style of typography overlay is not effective.

Within my research I have found that Progressive House artists have mainly included simple coloured typography such as white on black background or black on white background however I have come across some examples which caught my attention. One of them is the digipak by Hardwell - United We Are. As we can see in the image, the style which has been used within the typography has provided the font with brighter areas as well as darker areas, which gave a slight 'ombre' finish. The transition between such tones and colours has inspired me to experiment with colour in my own text. As we can see in the image above. I have implemented a rainbow colour scheme to my typography with the use of a gradient tool in Photoshop. The finished effect was quite pleasing as the colours smoothly shift towards a much warmer tone therefore representing the dynamic nature which is associated with Progressive House. The use of colour such as the one above, follows my research as I have acknowledged that Progressive House digipak / adverts contain elements of colour that is striking to the audience. I believe that such transition of colours throughout the text is very pleasing therefore I will put this idea forward and further develop it.

During my experimentation I have come across an image which portrayed a abstract collection of triangles formed onto one canvas, giving of a 3D impression due to their sharp edges and vast variety of tones and shadows. I have considered this image to be appropriate for my text and implemented it into the font which can be seen above with the use of a clipping mask tool. The fact that the image is very irregular and portrays different shades of colours, has really brought out the text and its structure making it more intriguing for the audience as the same time. The only downside of this experimentation is the cold tone of the image which has been placed into the typography. In order to fix this issue I have considered to implement the use of worm colours from the earlier development and combine it with such abstract image which in my opinion will provide me with a effective outcome.

FINAL TYPOGRAPHY TEXTURE

As a result of my earlier development I have come to a conclusion where I would merge the use of warm colours within my typography with the use of an abstract 'filler' image. In order to achieve a warmer tone I have used the "Hue/Saturation" tool within Photoshop in order to change the Hue of the image and provide it with much warmer tones. The result of this development can be clearly seen by the contrast of the background before and after the hue/saturation correction. By completing this step I have provided the image with much warmer tones that reflect the codes and conventions of Progressive House genre. On the right hand side I have provided a visual contrast between the standard white font, the first attempt at using the abstract image and the final version of the abstract image with corrected hue and saturation. The development of the photograph has caused the typography to be more aesthetically pleasing for the eye especially against a background image. As of such warm tones the text will be easy to spot therefore making my digipak simultaneously informative and attractive, making it meet my expectations. The use of image overlay on text is a very simple yet effective development which meets the representations of Progressive House, especially with the abstract 3D texture and colour that represent the night club settings and fast tempo of the songs.

FRONT COVER : BACKGROUND IMAGE

Considering the fact that Rudimentals "Home" digipak and advert have been one of the main inspirations which I have taken into consideration when generating ideas for my digipak and advert, I have chosen to follow their style of implementing a real life image as the background.

As seen beforehand within my Test Shots post, I have regularly taken photographs within the locations where we have filmed our music video which allowed me for a close connection of my music video to my digipak. As a result of this I have captured photographs in Oxford Street that portrayed a urban location just like in Rudimentals digipak and advert, which can be seen below.

The above image has clearly captured the surrounding due to a correct shutter speed, ISO setting as well as aperture making sure that the image is focused and well lit. By implementing this sort of photography within my work I will be able to visually direct my digipak and advert at my targeted audience due to the image portraying an urban location which is where my target audience mainly lives and socializes by attending gigs/clubs. Originally the image is very basic and as this being my digipak and advert background I would prefer it to portray more of a surreal element to it.

Above I present the two images which I have overlayed on top of my base photograph in order to enhance the surreal element within my photography. I have chosen to overlay an image of the galaxy and clouds as I believe that the effect they give to the photograph, portrays a very mystical surrounding which additionally gives an impression of a 'fairy tale' like atmosphere which contrasts with the dream of the actress that we have portrayed within our music video. By applying these two images on top of my base image. my photograph has gained a deeper saturation of colours as well as a high emphasis on blue tones. The final effect is quite 'magical' due to all of its tones and shadows working together in harmony creating a perfect canvas for the typography to be placed on as it will be clearly seen with its bright colours.

GEOMETRICAL SHAPE : FRONT COVER
Within my research I have come across the digipak by Clean Bandit where they have used a number of geometrical shapes within their front digipak cover. I have been inspired to implement a gemoetrical shape within  my own digipak construction therefore I have taken a look at various online tutorials which portrayed the gemoetric style which I was looking for. As a result of this I have come across the tutorial which can be seen below and taken inspiration from it.

Above I portray my attempt at recreating what the person in the tutorial did. I have drawn the symbol with the use of shapes in Photoshop. After successfully drawing the desired shape I have moved onto constructing the image and the composition within the geometrical shape. At first I have positioned the photograph in the desired place and cut around the edges of the shape for the image to only show within the shape. After completing this stage I have decided to follow the same style as the person has in the tutorial and move each part of the triangle in a different direction in order to gain a very surreal effect. The final effect can be seen below.

Within my earlier posts I have decided to experiment with the placement of the actress which I have used for my music video within the front cover of my digipak with the use of the geometrical shape. Once I have constructed the geometrical shape, its inner composition and placed it over the background image I have come to a conclusion that the experiment did not go as planned. The inner composition of the geometrical shape fades away into the background image only leaving brighter areas of the actress to be seen. Due to this, the outline of the shape is unclear causing the page to look unorganised and unprofessional. As a result I will continue with the geometrical shape however with a different inner composition which I portray below.

In the above images I portray the three steps which I have taken to construct a new version of the geometrical shape. At first I have applied the same abstract texture image which I have used for the typography overlay and cut it to the right size of the shape. As a matter of experimentation, in the last screenshot we can see that I have overlayed the image with the same abstract layer however this time I have set the layer style to "overlay" which gave the geometrical shape a 3D effect, similar to the 'cellophane' effect. The final version of the geometrical shape resembles the Progressive House genre as the 'cellophane' effect represents the fast paced club lighting in the format of strobes and lasers as well as the variety of colours which portray the dynamic nature, fast tempo as well as party settings that the audience experiences.

Conclusion:
The above visualising tasks have helped me to gain an insight into what my content for my digipak and advert will look like therefore allowing me to conclude upon the style and overall composition that I will place within my work. On top of this, by visualising such content my audience will be allowed to give valuable feedback on what content they would like to see within my products therefore re-ensuring that I follow the vital codes and conventions for Progressive House genre.

Ancillary Task - Test Shots

Here I present some of the test shots which I have taken during the filming of our music video. By capturing photographs during the filming I was allowed to portray the same character location, clothing as well as expressions which interlink with the music video. Considering the fact that I have initially thought about including an image of the actress as well as real life streets and locations within the digipak/advert I have as a result captured some of the locations such as the Bunny Park in Hanwell, Hyde Park as well as Oxford Street in Central London where our filming took place.

Hanwell Bunny Park (actress):
Within this location I have focused my photography on the actress by capturing photographs which portray her as the central visual interest. The images mainly portray the actress directly in front of the lens making eye contact with the character. I believe that this is very significant, as by this I have allowed the photograph to gain a impression as if the actress is looking at the audience on the other side of the photograph, which intrigues the audience into the digipak/advert. I have considered to use eye contact within my photography as I have found it present within the Progressive House digipaks which I have looked at.
The images mainly show the character portraying neutral emotions as she is not joyful or melancholic which I believe really suits my music video where a vast variety of emotions is portrayed within the transition from negative representations of youth towards the positive. Considering the fact that my audience is of a younger age, I have targeted them by portraying an individual which suits their age group, making the photograph personal in a way that they can relate to it. I will consider using the above images or re-capture any needed shots within my free time and use them within my digipak/advert. Within my design I will target to apply a rather abstract effect/composition to the photograph which will interlink with the surreal elements which is portrayed within the music video that I have created as well as the Progressive House genre which mainly portrays dynamic nature.

Hanwell Bunny Park (Location):
Other than capturing the actress, I have additionally paid attention to the location within Hanwell Bunny Park while filming. The domination of nature within my surrounding has allowed me to capture images which I believe are quite intriguing due to the light, lines and textures they present. For example, the image which I found most successful was the wide shot of a tree against the iconic bridge within Bunny Park. The image has really caught my attention due to the light flare which has been caused by taking the picture towards the sun. The light flare has as a result emphasised the tree by portraying it with brighter colours and surrounding in comparison to the rest of the composition. This image would be ideal for any overlaying on objects such as text or even other photographs to gain a 'double exposure' effect that has a surreal connotation therefore making it suit the Progressive House genre and my initial thoughts on the digipak/advert.

Central London:
The images which I have taken during the filming in Central London will be mainly used for the background of my digipak/advert. As explained beforehand in my research, I have been inspired to create such composition by the digipak and advert from Rudimental - Home album.
I believe that the contrast between the wide shot of a location will contrast with the image of the actress therefore underlining the surreal element within the final product that I will produce. I will further enhance these images by applying various saturation as well as contrasts effects which will bring out the colour within the image. The reason for such editing is to bring live into the photograph by emphasising its bright colours which will reflect the tempo as well as the mood which you gain while listening to Progressive House music. Considering the fact that the image is quite overwhelming and could take attention away from the vital typography which I will include within the digipak I could consider reducing the opacity of the photograph which will fade it away into the background, bringint out the text at the same time. Looking back at my consumer profile, I believe that the images of rural surroundings work well as my genre is mainly targeted at audiences which regularly interact with social life such as clubs and mainly live in bigger cities therefore an image of such location will allow the audience to reflect upon themselves, making the product targeted at them.

Ancillary Task - Gaining Inspiration

I have targeted today's lesson for research purposes and decided to look at already existing Photoshop tutorials which will allow me to generate new ideas. I have based my research on typography and background graphics  as I believe they play a huge role within the digipak. In order to make my digipak eye-catchy and follow the codes & conventions I have looked at tutorials which portray such 'abstract' style and will provide me with guidance while constructing my digipak and advert. By paying attention to such tutorials I believe I will be able to combine various elements from each of them and come up with a unique final design that will suit the Progressive House genre.

Concluding, I will take into consideration most of the above tutorials and take inspiration from them into my own digipak/advert creation as I believe that they will enhance the 'surreal element' which I plan to integrate within my graphics and text. By following such tutorials I will be allowed to create unique content as well as make my work up to a professional standard.

Ancillary Task - Mindmap Of Ideas & Elements From Real Digipaks

ELEMENTS FROM REAL DIGIPAKS:

As discussed within the mindmap, I have found the Clean Bandits digipak significantly interesting as it has portrayed a domination of a surreal element that I believe is important within the Progressive House genre. Within the digipak I have paid particular attention to the geometrical shapes. I plan to take on inspiration from Clean Bandits digipak in the form of implementing a geometrical shape within my digipak/advert against a background. I believe that by including such graphics within my work I will be allowed to add a abstract touch to my work. As we can see above in the digipak, the geometrical shapes have been used as a form of a mirror in order to reflect the surrounding, whereas in my work I will challenge this approach to geometrical shapes and implement a image of the actress we have used for our video or implement a abstract composition. I have kept in mind the composition used by 'Zedd' in his digipaks where he has used very subtle, well saturated abstract compositions which substituted any imagery.

A second piece of real life  work which has mainly influenced my idea generation is the Rudimental - Home digipak and advert. As we can see in both of their mediums a real life image has been placed in order to attract the audiences attention via the saturated and vibrant colours. I believe that is a very beneficial feature of Progressive House digipak/advert as it represents the high tempo of the songs and the dynamic nature of the young audience. As a result of this I have been inspired by this work and will choose to implement a real life image as my digipak/advert background. In order to challenge this convention, I have decided to implement a darker image in order for the typography to stand out within the canvas of the digipak and advert, making it much clearer and eye catchy.

Conclusion:

In order to experiment with my choices which I have made on typography and imagery I will focus my next posts on refining my ideas and visualising them in order to gain successfull feedback from my audience. In order to effectively construct the first initial thoughts on my composition I will use programs such as Photoshop which will allow me to construct my digital content for my digipak and advert. I will use a verbal questionnaire as a form of feedback in order to take a insight into what my audience believes is the right choice for my digipak and advert which I then will be allowed to follow during my construction page. I believe that by gaining clear feedback, I will be allowed to tailor my work for my specific audience.

Group Work - Social Media Facebook

During our planning and development we have created social media website for our artist. After creating our final product we have decided to upload the video in order to get more feedback from our audience. In order to reach to greater audience we have shared the final product on our Facebook accounts.

After this process we will be continuously uploading screenshots from our gathered feedback. We will be focusing within a week to gather needed comments and improvements.

2/02/16

Already the same day after uploading the video on social media we have gathered essential feedback, comments, shares and likes. It was quite exciting to see what other people think of our video and share their own opinions. Here are some screen shots demonstrating their feedback!

This is a screenshot from my YouTube account where I uploaded our video. Within few hours we have gained 104 views which we haven't expected. Besides, from that we got some likes which have followed to Facebook page.

This is a screenshot demonstrating the post from my Facebook page which our group has shares to their own profile pages. The use of social media has allowed us to gain feedback from various types of audience- people who we know but also friends of our friends and so on. The age range was open allowing the feedback to be more reliable.

Here is a screenshot of some of the audience. Due to our polish ethnicity some of the comments were written in foreign language, although they were all positive of people being impressed by our work. Another comments varied from 'Love it' to '..You can't help but watch it to see what happens'. Others have been also giving their opinion about certain elements of their video such as 'I like the way you put two shots in the same cut, and it catches the audience's attention. Nice work.'

Overall, we are really happy with this kind of feedback as anyone is free to comment, like and give their opinion, allowing our work to be open to many different interpretations. Most of our feedback is positive giving us little space for improvement. In terms of this element we found the focus group more effective.

05.02.16

After few more days I have looked back at our social media share of our product. Concluding we have gained few more likes, implying that the audience has enjoyed watching the video by clicking the 'thumb up' tool.

Group Work - Focus Group Feedback

(Wear headphones for better sound quality)

This is a recording from our focus group feedback. We have collected individuals to answer our questionnaire and any additional information based on quite open questions. We have never gained this kind of feedback allowing us to reach different sources of audience. During this week we will also focus on hanging out paper questionnaires and sharing our video on social media.

Within our focus group we had balanced ratio of female and male respondents. This allowed us to gain reliable feedback. The first question was based on identifying feelings portrayed throughout the music video. Our audience has included the feelings of : SADNESS, HAPPINESS, TRANSITION FROM ISOLATION TO FREEDOM. These answers significantly highlighted the intentions of our product, suggesting the youth and young adults not being emotionally stable.

The second question was based on the ideas our character has portrayed about young people. One of the respondents has said that youth often tends to go to different paths which is not necessarily beneficial for them and then they tend to realize it. This is something we aimed to definitely portray within our video. We have highlighted this through the use of reflection towards the end of the video.

The next question was based on identifying the best parts of the video by the audience. We wanted to find out which elements were most engaging and successful to different people. The audience has identified:

- THE CHORUS (highlighted and reminded the audience the positive representation of the character)
- LINK BETWEEN THE AUDIO AND VISUALS ( We intentionally followed the theory of Andrew Goodwin of relationship between the lyrics and the visual in order to emphasize this effect. We are happy that this element was easy to follow by our audience).
-EDITING TECHNIQUES (DOUBLE EXPOSURE / OVERLAY ''PROFESSIONAL'') Within this process we were really experimental with this element of the video as our initial idea was based on reversing the video. After various experiments we have selected two parts of the video to create an overlay where one elements was going forward and another one backwards.

Then we wanted to investigate our use of media language of positive and negative connotations. Here we found important to us feedback. The respondents found the combination of negative and positive connotations quite balanced, although the representations were not extreme. This is an area we could definitely develop making our narrative even stronger through emphasis on the actress's actions.

The final question was based on final conclusions and any space for improvement.

- 'Effective use of editing techniques ... fast pace, tempo..'
- 'Good video'
- IMPROVEMENTS ( 'It was quite repetitive') within this element of the feedback we should definitely consider the use of more shots in order to make the video less repetitive, although some respondents found the repetition also effective due to keeping the continuity.

Overall, we found the focus group feedback really effective as we could elaborate on the questions and respondents could extend their answers comfortably!
