Group Work - Music Video Draft 1

This is our first draft of our music video. During the rendering process we came across significant errors which included the narrative to not to as clear as we have expected it to be. This included the transition into the dream which we found was quite confusing. In order to fix this issue we decided to implement color scheme changes with the use of adjustment layers in Adobe Premier Elements. This will allow us to separate the approach of the dream and the dream itself. Another problem we came across was the lack of information at the beginning and at the end of the video. We are planning to introduce the artist and the song title at the beginning with the use of text and copyright information at the end to meet the codes and conventions of music videos. Finally, we have found that the video has exceeded in time due to rendering problems. This resulted in a black screen as well as unwanted shots to appear after the music has finished. We will challenge this problem by making sure that only selected 4 minutes of the video are rendered. If this problem appears again we will crop the video.

Group Task - Experimental Shots

This is a selection of extra experimental shots which we have created during our filming process. This set of videos will significantly help us to back up our idea in case other shots don't work as well. We are planning to use these substitute videos in case they suit better within the video or they're better then planned shots. We kept the theme of the shots very similar to planned shots, allowing us to be more experimental with the camera movement and angles rather than the concept or the theme of the shot.

1) This is a shot of the actress swinging on a swing. Although our original shots were planned on the traditional swing we decided to capture two different types of movements. This is successful as within this shot we obtained more subtle motion where the actress was significantly more exposed. The natural movement of the hair and stronger facial expression makes the shot successful even more. We are strongly considering using this shot within our video as it will match our fast cut beat in the chorus.

2) This is another experimental shot which represents the point of view of the actress spinning around. This allows us to make a more personal feeling, engaging the audience by the fact they can see it through the eyes of the character.

3) This is a shot taken at the underground platform. We decided to record this shot in order to obtain more movement within our video in order to emphasize the transitions and idea of travelling. This worked quite well as we obtained quite natural feeling due to people on the platform. Besides, from that we believe it's going to work really well with the fast cuts within our video.

4) This is another shot taken in the underground setting, however this time within the train. This worked really well as we have focused the shot on the windows. This allowed us to record fast movement of the train, reinforcing the theme of travelling. We will definitely use this video within the build up before the chorus as it will successfully emphasize the fast tempo of the beat.

5) This is a third experimental shot which we captured during our journey. The focus of this video is based on the theme of graffiti which is often identified within the youth culture. As we included an element of graffiti within our storyboard we think this is going to reinforce this idea even further, especially due to continues movement of the train demonstrating clear graffiti work. The fact that during our filming we didn't successfully capture the theme of graffiti using the model, we are thinking of using this video as a substitute.

6) This is another experimental shot, however using the GoPro camera, which allowed us to capture a really strong high angle shot using the stick. This worked quite well also due to the eye fish effect which emphasizes the dynamic nature / feeling of dance music in particular progressive house. Besides, from that it effectively reinforces the location setting emphasizing the rural feeling but urban areas in the far background.

Group Task - Post Production Questionnaire Proporsal

Along with editing process we have been discussing our post production and focus group questionnaire. This is a list of questions we came up with during our meeting minutes. Our aim is to gain valuable feedback which will help us with our evaluation and ancillary task. We have been discussing range of themes including : representations, concept, narrative, genre codes and conventions but also media language (connotations). The range of topics will help us gain useful feedback across different fields allowing us to successfully reflect on our final product.

Group Task - Meeting Minutes

During our meeting minutes we decided to reflect on our filming process which took place on the 9th and 13th of January. During these two days we accomplished to successfully film our music video.

However, during our filming we came across some problems with certain shots within the Ealing Parking location where some shots we unsuccessful. We were unable to create planned outcome which resulted in additional / experimental shots in particular using the GoPro camera. The use of this equipment was really successful, allowing us to highlight our genre of progressive house even further, creating alive and dynamic movement of the character (this can be supported through our research of artist's such as Avicii - The Nights).

During filming process as a group we shared the role of camera person. This worked really well as we managed to continuously feedback as we filmed, engaging our thoughts and ideas to create the most successful outcome.

ACTION PLAN: COMPLETED BY THE END OF JANUARY

1) RUSHES / SHOT LIST
2) EDIT DECISION LIST
3) EDITING PROCESS
4) POST- PRODUCTION QUESTIONNAIRE

This is a list of tasks which we have already started. Continuously, we are working on the shot list and editing process in order to speed up our time management. Along side, we are thinking about post-production questionnaire and possible examination of our work. We are looking forward to complete our production with a successful outcome!
